Best Marketing Strategy To Grow Your Small Business

A client confessed to me that she did not know the importance of marketing strategy when she first started.

“She honestly thought that all she had to do is get training as a coach, and then put a website up, and put up her products and services, and then magically, she was going to succeed as a coach. And she said she’s embarrassed now to realize that’s not the reality.” 

She thought maybe social media somehow would bring in clients but when that didn’t happen she felt lost.

Let’s talk about how you can harness the power of a good marketing strategy to get people to buy your products and services. So if you have traffic to your website, if you’ve been able to solve that because you read my previous blog post.

Then let us talk about your marketing strategy so that people will buy your products and services. This can be a very frustrating thing. I think the number one issue that especially coaches have is that they try to solve people’s problems before they buy their products and services.

Tactic #1 The first step in your marketing strategy is to understand your avatar

The first step in creating a solid “marketing strategy plan” is to understand your ideal client so that you can write great sales copy.

It’s very, very important that you understand the struggles that your audience and your community, the people that you are going after, your ideal customer, and what they are really is going through. Their frustrations, what their daily experience is. You want to get in touch with that. 

So you’re going to add their story in your copy. . . 

You’re going to say what your actual day is. . .

When I reach coaches to help them to scale their businesses, I describe their day, you got all these ideas going on, you feel stuck, you don’t know what to focus on next to scale your business. So focus on that type of approach. 

. . .and it can be very, very frustrating because if you don’t have just one little thing set up correctly in your marketing strategy, or in your sales strategy, you’re not going to make sales.

This is why what you want to include great sales copy in your marketing strategy plan for a successful product/service launch. . . . 

Tactic #2 The second step in your marketing strategy is to have the right sales copy

If you struggle to write sales copy . . . 

. . . because it is something that you have to learn over a long period of time, and it’s something that nobody ever truly masters (to be honest) because it is all about knowing your customer. 

Sometimes you get too deep and too connected to their reality you forget what the truth is, and it’s too personal that you start to think that your ideal customer thinks just like you. 

So sometimes you’ve got to take a step back and get another view. . . 

. . . and that’s where it really will help you to scale your business faster if you hire a good copywriter. So if you’re not skilled in it, hire somebody. If you need help with this, I offer some copywriting services.

One of the top mistakes I see businesses make with copy on their website is they make it all about themselves, what they offer and how great what they offer is. 

Instead, starting with the problem you solve, who you help and what they should do next is idea. When someone goes to your homepage they should be able to understand what you do, who you do it for and what to do next in the first 3 seconds. 

Tactic #3 The third step in your marketing strategy is to sell your ideal customer what they want not what you want

After you’ve got great copy, the next thing you want to do is make sure that your offer is actually what people want.

I cannot tell you how many times in my journey as an entrepreneur, I’ve gone through this as well, where you launch something and you even ask your community, what do you want? 

And they’re like, I want this, I want this, I want this, I want this! 

You launch it and nobody buys. . .  

At that point, it’s either the copy was way off, the offer was way off, or people just, you know, you haven’t built up enough trust with them for them to buy from you.

So it can be very, very frustrating, especially out the gate when you are trying to get coaching clients.

And really to meet them where they’re at. It is something that you have to work on, regularly. I like to do a lot of surveys for my marketing strategy, and repeat that every once in a while. 

I’ll ask my community what they want, what their biggest issues are because I like to stay in touch with where they’re at. I remind myself where they’re at, and not try to just problem solve all of the time and assume that they’re where I’m at. 

There’s a great way to do this to include in your marketing strategy plan. 

You can send a survey out to your community and ask them what their biggest struggle is with the particular topic that you focus on. Or if you don’t have a community yet, you can ask somebody else that has a community, your ideal customer. 

You can rent an email list and do that. 

You can run a Facebook ad, and run a survey to people. You can put it in your email signature and just get it out everywhere and try and get as many people to opt-in and give you feedback. And that is going to help you.

Tactic #4 - The fourth area to focus on in your marketing strategy is to name your product(s) after the promise you are making

The other reason why people don’t buy is that your product or service isn’t named correctly. 

So I was working with one woman that she specializes in project management, and from a business perspective, people weren’t buying her products because they would think, “Project management? I don’t need project management I need to build my business.” 

But where she was helping them with was a step-by-step guide in building their business and getting things off the ground, and getting the right things into place. And getting things done and not going after the super shiny things, and getting off track. 

Having a schedule and having that in place is so important, right? 

So, to get product sales, she needed to change the name of her services from project management that meant nothing to them. That was how she was going to solve the problems, to something around getting organized in your business. 

So these are some of the ways you can utilize the best marketing strategies and create an effective marketing strategy for you business.
